Pabst Wetland & Stream Mitigation Bank

The Pabst Wetland & Stream Mitigation Bank is a 34-acre project within the floodplain of Pine Creek. 


Restoration activities include the reconnection of Pine Creek to its floodplain, the establishment of riparian buffer along the stream and upland buffer around the wetlands to provide species richness as compared to monoculture species, and the improvement of 5,300+ linear feet of stream and overall water quality.


The project provides ecological benefits to the watershed by minimizing stream erosion and sediment discharge, which is significant given the site’s connectivity to Pine Lake and the Iowa River, as well as the re-introduction of native vegetation to the property which previously consisted of an invasive monoculture.


The Pabst Wetland and Stream Mitigation Bank serves much of central Iowa.

Bunker Mitigation Bank (PENDING)


Location: Warren County

USACE District: Rock Island

Credits Offered: Stream

Bunker Mitigation Bank will be an approximately 15-acre project within the floodplain of a tributary to Middle Creek. 


The goal of this project is to restore 2,333 linear feet of an unnamed tributary to Middle Creek by using several in-stream restoration methods, including re-meandering it to restore natural sinuosity to the channel and decrease the slopes. The project will improve floodplain connectivity and habitat through the installation of floodplain benches and rock riffles. 


The project provides ecological benefits to the watershed by minimizing stream erosion and nutrient runoff to the downstream watershed, allowing for a natural floodplain connection, and improving riparian buffer habitat by managing vegetation to remove invasive species and promote native species diversity. 


The Bunker Stream Mitigation Bank will serve much of south-central Iowa.

We design, engineer, and construct the restoration of farmland, pastures, streams, and forests, returning them back to natural, self-sustaining habitat systems.
